About Dr. Thompson

Mark A. Thompson, M.D. is an invasive, non-interventional cardiologist. Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he returned to his home state when he was awarded a full scholarship to study medicine at the University of Missouri. While in medical school, Dr. Thompson completed additional coursework and clinical research in exercise biology and physiology, coronary atherosclerosis and cardiac risk factor modification through exercise and dietary regulation.

Dr. Thompson completed his internal medicine residency at Tulane University and then went on to attend the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, also in New Orleans, where he studied cardiovascular disease and completed sub-specialty training in heart failure and cardiac transplantation. Since his arrival in Dallas, Texas in 2012, he has grown a successful private practice. He was accepted on medical staff in multiple systems throughout the Dallas area. His reputation for evidence based, compassionate care has earned him many accolades and nominations for clinical excellence. His system-based thought process and leadership training has earned him many invitations from hospital presidents to work as a director and serve on multiple leadership councils, executive committees and administrative boards.

His clinical interests are in clinical cardiology, cardiomyopathies, peripheral vascular disease and in multimodality cardiac and vascular imaging, including echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, nuclear cardiology and CT angiography.
